If Valentine’s Day has taught us anything, it’s that people change, but real estate remains the same. It’s why some artists would much rather paint buildings than people, and it’s precisely why we’ll be recounting all the reasons we love St. Maarten this Valentine’s Day.

With that in mind, here’s some Sint Maarten trivia that’ll make you love it as much as we do.

Every Day’s Beach Day

Every day at St. Maarten is beach day not because of some Caribbean cliché but because the 37 square mile coastline of the island has 37 different beaches of all kinds, sizes, and quirks. Getting a beachfront home isn’t a struggle in this part of the Caribbean, but avoiding one certainly is.

However, that’s not to say all the beaches are noisy and public. Some beaches are hidden, whereas others offer activities, such as diving, snorkeling, surfing, and parasailing for anyone looking to make the most of that endlessly blue sky and waters.

It Boasts Two Nationalities

Have you ever seen two nations sharing their land? Well, we guess St. Maarten just got lucky because it’s the smallest island in the entire world to be shared by two different countries. Its northern end is all French, whereas the southern bit remains Dutch.

However, the border between these two nationalities is a mere formality. It’s open, and people from both sides can cross through without any restriction. The two sides are also very diverse, with the French side better known for its nature hikes and the Dutch side popular for its nightlife.

One of the Trickiest Landings in the World

Have you ever seen one of those videos where jets come perilously close to crowded beaches during landings? Well, nine times out of ten, you were probably watching a clip from Sint Maarten.

The landing strip at Princess Julia Airport backs right up to Maho Beach, making entire Dreamliners come within a hundred feet of the beachgoers. The airport ranked among CNN’s most alarming landings in 2021, and we can see why they think that. However, if you’re a thrill-seeker, there’s nothing like having a plane come within sucking distance of you.
